No Miracle Cures: A multifactoral Guide to Stuttering Cures
Stuttering is caused by at least five factors: genetics, two neurological abnormalities, responses to stress, and speech-related fears and anxieties. But most stuttering therapy programs address only one issue, such as breathing a certain way, or not hiding your stuttering. Each might help you in some situations, but you still stutter in other situations. No Miracle Cures instead guides you through treatments for all five factors that contribute to stuttering. You’ll find the best treatments for children, teenagers, adults who stutter mildly, and adults who stutter severely. Stuttering may seem like one big problem to you. No Miracle Cures breaks down stuttering into many small problems and shows you how to solve each one.
Knotted Tongues: Stuttering in History and the Quest for a Cure
Bobrick, a stutterer himself, writes a fascinating historical overview of both the famous stutterers in history (Greek orator Demosthenes, Winston Churchill, Nai Bevan) and reviews the “cures” on offer through the ages. I am similarly afflicted and found the book fascinating.
KKeep in mind though, that if you're looking to learn about the causes and therapies and in-depth experiences with stuttering, this book will not fulfill that venue. This is a book on history and the interesting and absurd methods of “curing” the stutter that were utilized. At any rate, if you are a stutterer and you want to see that you're not alone, please pick up a copy of this book.
Stuttering….any advice.?
Does anybody know a cure for stuttering. I’ve been through 10yrs of speech therapy and have even tried an auditory feedback device (speech easy) nothing seems to work. Stuttering runs in my family my father has outgrown his and my sisters still have theirs but not as extreme. Any suggestions?

If you have learned technigues from a specialist in stuttering, you probably just need to practice, practice, practice. Unfortunately, there is no cure and what is learned in speech therapy must become a part of the daily routine.

cure for stuttering???????????
who here stutters and its pretty much ruining their life??? im sorry for sounding like a baby but i cant even talk 2 the girl i like because she might laugh and just talk trash and most people think im boring because im really silent and im pretty sure u know y cuz i stutter and i rather be boring than being laughed at. so do u have the same problem and is their a cure for it. ps im 15
yaay thank god! atleast a person who understands my problem.
Don’t worry I stutter too and i am 14 years old.
I stutter everyday and its awful, i am always afraid that i’ll stutter when i am talking to a person.
Usually when the teacher says something about oral speech in front of the class, i just freak out and get so scared about it. Then right before the speech my whole body just shakes and i become so nervous about it cuz i am usually scared that kids might make fun of me. Even when i am talking to my friends, even when i am not nervous. Its just painful to stutter all the time.
Sometimes when i am alone i sing, and when iam singing or reading a poem i noticed that i dont stutter at all. ( Talking with a rhythm can reduce stuttering)
Heres what i try:
- First i think in my head what to say
- I usually skip the first consonants of the word cuz we dont stutter on vowels.
- Take a long deep breath when speaking
- Be very calm relaxed
- Try not to look at the persons eye and talk very slowly
Well thats it, but sometimes its so hard to get calm when u are really nervous and some of the steps might not work for u, cuz it also doesnt work for me.
Its usually best to take a deep breathe and skip the consonants.
Ex: U dont have to say the word "person" instead u can say "erson" Sometimes the word might sound odd without the first consonants.
Sometimes i just hate myself, I stutter and has HyperHydrosis. Hyperhydrosis is like a natural disease that causes ur hand and feet to sweat for 70% time of ur life.
Both of these has no medical cure and it sucks! Theres no drugs or medicines that can cure these and i frkin hate it. I cant even hold persons hand, one time i had to hold hand with this girl and when i touched her hand, then she wiped her hands and said " how come ur hand is all wet?"
How To Stop Stuttering?
I have a friend that stutters alot. He seems to have quit talking alot over the past few years because of it and i am concerned for him. He is not mental but has bad anxiety. He wears sunglasses for his eyes and thinks to much of things if a matter bugs him. I wanted to know if anyone has any way to solve his stuttering. I heard of an earpiece that has helped cured people of the problem. If there is anyway of solving this, can you list the best way.
Beware of those things that go in your ear. They don’t work for every stutterer, and sometimes they work at first but the effect wears off later. It is also something that, if it works for him, will only work when it is worn. Take it out and you are still a stutterer!
They best bet is going to a speech therapist who specializes in treating stuttering or, if there isn’t one near you or you can’t afford it, work through the self therapy book.

what’s the best cure for stuttering/stammering?
The SpeechEasy is a device that fits into one ear and consists of a tiny microphone and a speaker. The wearer hears his own voice at a different pitch as he speaks, which some say makes it feel like someone is helping you along to produce words without stuttering. The SpeechEasy in combination with speech therapy effectively alleviates stuttering/ stammering. Good luck!
how to stop stuttering?
I’ve been stuttering for a while now and its really beginning to annoy me. I used to stutter as a small kid but then it went away and now recently it has gotten quite bad. The one particular word that I especially struggle with is the word guitar. sometimes I can say it just fine and then there are times that I just cant say it at all. It is especially annoying since I play the guitar and I say it a lot.
Any tips on how ‘cure’ the stuttering or fix it. cheers

Some medications that other stutterers have tried include lorazepam, citalopram, celexa, and buspar. Ask your doctor about trying an anti-anxiety medication while you are working on your stuttering. Be aware that your stuttering may be better than the side-effects of the medication, though.
Each stutterer is different, and a therapist who specializes in treating stuttering will be able to determine what will help you the most as they work with you.
The Foundation also has a list of speech therapists who have been trained to work with stutterers
My uncles who stuttered said that they stuttered worse when they tried NOT to stutter, when they were under stress, and when they were very tired. Try concentrating on what you are saying rather than how you are talking, eliminating as much stress from your life as you can, getting plenty of rest, plus working on your speech using a therapist, the self therapy book, or watching The Stuttering Foundation’s videos and using the things you learn every day.
